about

This two-and-a-half-hour audio journey presents the life of Dick Huemer as American studios developed commercial animation in the first half of the Twentieth Century, initially in New York then in California. Huemer worked as a lead animator at some of the early studios in New York and later became an influential story artist at the Disney Studio, as Walt advanced animation toward high art with Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. Animation historian Leonard Maltin once said, “Dick Huemer is a virtual one-man history of animation. He started with Mutt and Jeff and went through Disney, Fleischer, Mintz—he wrote Dumbo for Disney.” Years ago, on the podcast, we explored the life of Dick Huemer, but with recent discoveries, these entries have been significantly updated, expanded, and re-recorded.

Album time: two hours and thirty-four minutes.
